How to make an upside down tomato planter
What you need:
- 1 hanging basket - I used a cheap green plastic one £1.98
- 1 hanging basket liner - I used a felt liner but there are different ones out there use what you like. I went with what was cheapest £0.98
- Soil
- 1 tomato plant - I used a yellow cherry tomato variety
First you need to make a hole in your plastic hanging basket. I used one of these thingies. I have no clue what it is called so for the sake of giving it a name we are going to call it a hole making thingie that goes on the end of the drill. Sounds good to me.
Place your pot on the ground and drill your hole in the middle of the bottom of the pot.
See there now you have a pot with a hole in it. Well you should have anyway unless you did something wrong.
Now you need to cut a slit in your liner for the plant to go through. Take your liner and cut an X in the middle then place inside the pot.
Now gently and carefully place your tomato plant through the whole being careful not to break or damage the plant.
Fill the planter up with soil. I used a deeper pot to set my pot in while I filled it with soil so that I didnt damage the tomato plant on the bottom. Now your planter is ready to hang.
I went a step further and planted some basil seeds in the top half of my planter. Make sure you check your hanging basket daily for water. Baskets tend to try out fast so may need to be watered daily.
And of course I would not have been able to do this without my helpers.
